Villa rental · El Castillo, La Fortuna, Costa Rica
Not a room in a resort — the entire property. Ten en-suite bedrooms, 13 bathrooms and 6,000 square feet under one roof below Arenal Volcano, for up to 33 people. One group on site at a time, always.

Most Costa Rica accommodation for a large group is either several separate houses on one plot, or a block of hotel rooms with a shared lobby. This is neither. It is a single building on four levels, and when you book it, you have all of it: the pool and jacuzzi, the covered deck, the kitchen, the gym, the massage room and the grounds. There is no front desk, no other party at breakfast, and nobody else in the water.
Every one of the 10 bedrooms has its own bathroom, which is the detail that decides whether a big group actually enjoys sharing a house. Two of them — the Jaguar and the Monkey — have their own entrances from outside, so they work like casitas for the people who want to come and go without walking through a house full of relatives.
This is the part guests bring up more than the pool. Breakfast is cooked here every morning and included for up to 16 guests — eggs, gallo pinto, fruit cut that morning, coffee — served on the deck rather than in a dining room with service times.
Lunch and dinner can be added for the group and are quoted per stay, or the Presidential Package covers every meal along with the transfers, the vehicles and the massages.
The distinction worth understanding: the people cooking are the caretakers who live on the property, not agency staff who arrive for a shift and leave. They cook Costa Rican home food, they work around dietary requirements — one recent group ate fully vegetarian all week — and there is no menu card, because it is a house, not a restaurant.
“Having meals ready when we got home from our activities was very convenient, especially for our group of 11 adults.”

For a group this size that is a logistics answer as much as a food one. La Fortuna town is about twenty minutes away and few restaurants there seat twenty without notice, so eating out means booking tables, arranging vehicles and giving up an evening to the arrangements. Eating at the lodge means walking to the deck.
The whole property is $1,350 per night — not per room — with breakfast included for up to 16 guests and $20 per person per day above that, plus a one-time $350 cleaning fee.
The arithmetic is what surprises people. A group of twenty comes out near $70 per person per night, which in La Fortuna is usually less than twenty people in separate hotel rooms — and nobody is negotiating who gets the room without a bathroom.
El Castillo, on the quiet southwestern flank of Arenal Volcano — a five-minute walk from Lake Arenal and about twenty minutes from La Fortuna town. That distance is the point: less traffic, less light and more forest edge, which is why sloths, toucans and howler monkeys turn up in the trees on the property rather than only on organised excursions.
Both international airports, San José and Liberia, are roughly three hours away by road, and the transfer is included for whole-property stays. Getting here →
Whichever it is, we can take it further than beds: the Presidential Package covers all meals, airport transport, the vehicles and massages for the group, priced to match your accommodation total.
